Multimedia KioskThe second of my semester projects involved developing a multimedia kiosk for IRIS (the Institue for Robotics and Intelligent Systems).
There is a central kiosk server which holds a boot image for all the clients. Each client is identified by his MAC-Address and gets his own configuration files (for X-Server, Kernel, Networking and so on).
The clients are diskless stations with a TFT-Touchscreen that can be anywhere at ETH. When they are turned on the search for a boot-station and request kernel and root-image. As soon as they are up they start X and a modified version of the Firefox browser (without navigation buttons and URL field) and display a preconfigured website.
My thesis is also available online. |
